Layton Author Pushes Esteem

First-time
author B.J. Nybo is getting
rave reviews from area elementary
school students for both his
book and encouraging good
self-esteem.
Nybo, a Layton resident and
Kaysville native, wrote Elmo
Jackson Man of Action,
and now is making the rounds
of Davis County and surrounding
schools to boost kids' morale
and share his book as well.
Children at Whitesides Elementary
beamed with excitement when
Nybo talked to them about
the hero of his book, a boy
named Elmo Jackson. who uses
his superhero powers for good.
Nybo, who has a second Jackson
book in the works, already
has an enthusiastic fan club
in the youth of this area.
"A lot of kids in our
neighborhood have read the
book," said Jocelyn Thomson,
10. "We liked it so much
that a bunch of us dressed
up like characters from the
book for Halloween."
Nybo said he wanted to write
something that was not only
fun to read but also helped
kids feel good about themselves.
"This is a really great
school," he said. "The
kids are a blast."
One fifth-grader said he enjoyed
the assembly. His fellow students
seemed to agree as they raptly
listened to Nybo.
"Mr. Nybo encouraged
us to follow our dreams, that
anything is possible if we
believe in ourselves and never
give up," said one.
The message Nybo brought was
clear — everyone has
something to offer; every
person is important, and a
positive attitude is the key
to any success.
Nybo seems to follow his own
advice. He wrote the book,
then printed and marketed
it himself. That was a year
ago, and the book has been
met with a great deal of success.
Nybo said his wife, Alyese,
and their five boys are the
inspiration and motivation
behind his book.
